"Don't put your faith into the man," sings Martha Ffion AKA Claire in her excellent indie-disco rockin' new song 'The Man'. Unless it's yer dad ofc, because 'The Man' is a song with a clever duality, being as it is both about the man (unscrupulous authority figure bast*rds e.g. the government) and a man (Claire's lovely Irish dad*). We met Claire's dad once at a wedding and can corroborate that he is indeed an excellent man™. But then we also later that night got lost in a field, and woke up the next morning fully clothed covered in Biscoff biscuit crumbs, so look we're probably not reliable witnesses tbh.
Released as part of Lost Map's PostMap Club subscription service in June, 'The Man' is the latest track to be revealed from Claire AKA Martha Ffion's truly brilliant new album The Wringer. Which we're putting out very soon – as in like June 30 nine-days-from-now soon – on extremely limited edition vinyl, which you'd be well advised to pre-order from us straight away because it's already well on its way to being all sold out. You can catch Claire doing a rare UK tour in late July, with dates in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle (see gig listings below), plus a v. special solo set at our Lost in London event at The Shacklewell Arms on Saturday, July 15 together with Lost Map Presents: Weird Wave, Fell, Firestations and Pictish Trail. That event is not well on its way to being all sold out, so we'd urge you to buy a ticket for that too if you can please (please). Buy one for yer dad too while you're at it, we hear he's nice.

EXCLUSIVE NEW MUSIC FROM MAKENESS

Speaking as the sort of person who feels like pulling on tight-fitting leathers, hopping onto a powerful motorcycle and tearing off into the desert in a trail of dust and cool indifference every time we're asked to perform a mundane task such as "the dishes", we can strongly relate to sonic explorer Kyle Molleson AKA Makeness's motorik new song 'Avoidance'. It's the title track from a brand new tour EP which Kyle has released with Lost Map, as part of the PostMap Club subscription service in June. Also available on cassette exclusively at Makeness tour dates supporting Unknown Mortal Orchestra – the last of which is tonight in Bristol (see gig listings below) – as well as via the Lost Map webshop and Bandcamp, the Avoidance EP follows the release on Lost Map last year of another exclusive session EP, written and recorded on the isle of Eigg as part of the label’s residency programme V I S I T ▲ T I O N S.
Avoidance sees Kyle continue in a similar vein of working collaboratively and in rural seclusion, by recording this time at Black Byre Studios in the Scottish Borders, and again with Suffolk-born synth-addict Gus Beamish-Cook, as well as drummer George Rothman and guitarist George Nicholls (who also releases music on Lost Map with his project The GN Band). You can hear Kyle and co playing some of the dark, driving, highly textural tunes from Avoidance and more at our – hate to go on about this – Lost in London weekender at The Shacklewell Arms on Friday, July 15 with Free Love and Jenny Moores Mystic Business.

'Weekend' can can mean only one thing. No, not fingering the last greasy morsels out the corner of a family-sized bag of tongue-tingling Skips™ prawn-cocktail flavoured corn snacks all alone on a Friday night, while re-watching Highlander II: The Quickening (theatrical version, 1991) and once again questioning all of our life choices. But rather, listening to the extremely upbeat and rockin' new song from Glasgow-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and maestro of slanted DIY melodic rock Lukas Clasen AKA Sulka. Which is called 'Weekend' FYI, in case you found all of that confusing.
Taken from his forthcoming brand-new album Distractions – due for release on limited-edition vinyl in association with Gold Mold Records on September 29, 2023 – ‘Weekend’ is available to stream and share now on digital platforms, as well as released as part of Lost Map’s PostMap Club monthly subscription service in June. It's a woozy mid-tempo gem about “drifting apart from people over time”, says Lukas, which sets the template for Distractions’ themes of ennui and escapism. Originally demoed towards 2021’s stripped-back Front Door EP, but saved for a bigger production, the track was an “exercise in collaboration” as Lukas puts it, which saw him find a whole new way of working. You can catch Sulka live at a bunch of dates upcoming in the late summer and autumn (see listings below), including an album launch for Distractions at The Rum Shack, Glasgow on Friday, September 29.
