HOWLIN' FLUNG
THE WEEKEND THAT WAS

Cans on the boat. Cans on the beach. Cans by the fireside. Cans for breakfast, lunch and tea. Cans diluted with rainwater. Romeo Taylor bellowing, "IT'S YER LAST CHANCE TAE DANCE", brandishing a trademark can. The man out of yer actual Grandaddy asleep on a pile of pallets outside Johnny's house (too many cans). Spilling a can all over the floor when the crowdsurfing kicked off during Free Love. A ridiculous dance party on the terrace on Sunday night that started before the sun had gone down and still didn't end, many hours later, even after the bar had run out of cans. A final, reflective can of stinking warm Strongbow, alone on an Eigg hillside in the dark in peaceful solitude at 3am watching the lights of the mainland sparkle distantly on the horizon, listening to the mellifluous sound of Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2U drifting softly on the breeze from the ceilidh hall below. Emosh .
Just a few assorted cans-related memories (i.e. some of the only stuff we remember) from another weekend which was impossible to sum up in words – much as our tireless host Pictish Trail has given it a bloody good shot with a big ol' blog over on the Lost Map website. To summarise: if you came and you contributed in any way large or small – thanks, we love you. If you didn't come – we love you anyway, and you really should come next time. Will there be another Howlin' Fling? We'll be doing our best to make sure that there is. Just give us at least a year or so to recover.
If you missed out, or if you're feeling Howlin' Fling withdrawal symptoms (same), then console yourself by looking back with a photo gallery of evocative shots by star snappers Stephanie Gibson and Colin Greig. And look forward to our next round of live events in the form of Lost Map's Lost Weekend (info below). More cans, anyone?

HAIL ROMEO TAYLOR: THE TRUE KING OF SCOTLAND
SIGN UP FOR THE POSTMAP CLUB NOW AND RECEIVE 'KINGDOM OF SCOTLAND' THROUGH YR LETTERBOX:
lostmap.com/club
He's Lost Map's spirit animal and vibes guru, a legendary Lord of the Sesh and the true heir to the porcelain throne of Scotland – he's the one and (thank christ) only Romeo Taylor. His 3am headline set on Friday night of Howlin' Fling melted minds and bowels alike. That's him above outside the ceilidh hall posing triumphantly in front of an ambulance in which unbelievably, despite his very best efforts, he somehow managed not to be transported off of the island.
There could be no more fitting next installment in our PostMap Club subscription service, then, than Romeo's masterpiece 'Kingdom of Scotland', this year's unofficial Howlin' Fling anthem. A happy-hardcore ode to our proud country, the land of Tennent's, chips and lower-than-average life expectancy, set to a honkin' jobby of a filthy techno beat. It should be the nation's unofficial anthem, in fact. The Corries' time has been and gone. Did you ever see The Corries live-tweeting from the toilet? You did not.
If you'd like to see the man, the myth, the never-knowingly edited legend that is Romeo Taylor in concert, then he's headlining the Hug and Pint in Glasgow on Friday, June 28 and tickets are on sale now. If you'd like to see Taylor live-stream an inexplicably compelling video of himself silently eating a Taco Bell then you should really be friends with him on Facebook.
A reminder of the full benefits of joining the PostMap Club follows (FYI there'll be a second postcard this month TBA, contingent on the retrieval of a broken-down van from Morar... long story):

SAVE THE DATE(S) FOR LOST MAP'S LOST WEEKEND
- TICKETS FOR SUNDAY SOCIAL IN PAISLEY ON SALE NOW
- MORE EVENTS TBA, OCTOBER 11-13
Uh-oh, here we go again. No sooner has one weekend been lost – gone forever, never to be retrieved, like a biro down the back of the sofa or our dignity circa 1997 – than another one emerges on the horizon, cracking open a delicious-looking Tennent's in gratuitous slow motion and beckoning us to take a deep foamy sup (*burps*). This one goes under the catch-all title of Lost Map's Lost Weekend, and will comprise of not just one but three individual interlinked events happening consecutively in three different locations across Scotland, all in the space of a single weekend – October 11-13, 2019. Bring extra cans for the road, lads.
The first sesh to be announced, which confusingly will be the last one of the weekend – don't ask, we're not sure why we're doing it this way either – is the Lost Map Sunday Social at Paisley Arts Centre, which just to be entirely clear, is in Paisley. What the Lost Map Sunday Social will be is a "social" event, on a Sunday (October 13), hosted by yer old pals Lost Map (us). Featuring musics from Pictish Trail, Molly Linen and Callum Easter, plus some new pals who we're just dying for you to meet called Fell. Tickets are on sale now. Filthy stinking hangover a strict condition of admission. All-seated show.
We'll be bringing you details of the other constituent parts of Lost Map's Lost Weekend soon. One of them's a big un'. OOOOOH.
